Storytelling Beginnings

I have been a volunteer storyteller for 25 years. I began as a volunteer in my oldest child's kindergarten class. It was so much fun that I continued. Throughout the years The Story Lady has appeared in my children's classes wearing her story apron. Visual objects relating to the stories are placed in the pockets and listeners are invited to take turns picking a story pocket. I use a participatory style of storytelling to involve the listener. My collection of stories includes folktales, current literature and stories I have written. This spring marked the end of an era-the seventh (and last) Owens' child graduated from Jackson Ave. Elementary. Twenty-six years of continuously having an elementary student has come to an end. But storytelling goes on.
